Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The government, through the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia, has emphasised that there will be no increase in electricity tariffs in May 2026. This addresses public complaints regarding potential tariff hikes.

“Up to today, as I speak, and based on the exercises we have conducted, there has been no increase in electricity tariffs. If there is one in the future, it will be announced,” Bahlil clarified after a limited meeting (Ratas) at the State Palace a few days ago, quoted on Wednesday (13/5/2026).

Previously, PT PLN (Persero) urged the public to be wary of misleading information circulating on social media about unannounced electricity tariff increases.

Through an official post on its Instagram account @pln_id, the company stated that such news is untrue, or a hoax.

PLN conveyed that there is currently no increase in electricity tariffs. The government has set the electricity tariffs to remain in effect for the second quarter of 2026, namely April to June 2026, the same as the previous period.

“In fact, there is no increase in electricity tariffs. The government has determined that electricity tariffs remain the same for the April-June 2026 period as in the previous period,” PLN wrote, quoted on Tuesday (5/5/2026).

PLN then reminded the public to always access information from official sources, both through the website and the company’s official social media channels.

As is known, electricity tariff policies refer to Ministerial Regulation of ESDM Number 7 of 2024 concerning Electricity Tariffs Provided by PT PLN (Persero).

Adjustments to tariffs for non-subsidised customers are made every three months, based on changes in the realisation of macroeconomic parameters, including exchange rates, Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and the Benchmark Coal Price (HBA).
