Observers noted that Burnham’s approach differs from many politicians who abandon failed policies; instead, he is proposing the same target at a national level. His stance is reminiscent of former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who revealed he would have ordered an end to rough sleeping on his first day in government had he won the 2017 election. The announcement is expected to resonate with idealistic and progressive factions within the Labour Party, potentially helping to maintain their support if Shabana Mahmood is appointed as Chancellor of the Exchequer.
