Officers under investigation

YOGYAKARTA: Yogyakarta Police chief Lt. Col. Bani Siswono admitted yesterday that two of his subordinates were currently under investigation for allegedly shooting at students here in May using live bullets.

"We are investigating two police officers, one a chief sergeant and another a second lieutenant," he said.

It is suspected that bullets removed from the legs of Pito Sadoni, a high school student, and Joner Damanik, a university student, belong to the officers, he said.

Bani promised stern measures would be taken against his errant subordinates.

Both Pito and Jones were shot and wounded on May 10 during a street protest on Jl. Urip Sumohardjo, Antara reported. (aan)
