Joint officers struggled to extinguish forest fires in the Mount Semeru climbing area, Lumajang, East Java, on Monday (31/08/2026). Approximately 50 personnel from the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS), Fire Care Communities (MPA), Saver Semeru volunteers, local residents, PPGST, and the Lumajang Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) were deployed to extinguish the flames and create firebreaks at several locations.

Extinguishment efforts were carried out at four main fire points, namely around Post 1, Post 2, the Kalimati Block, and the route towards Trisula located in the Malang Regency area. Officers faced difficult terrain consisting of steep cliffs, strong winds, and limited water sources, making the firefighting process arduous.

Forest fires in the Mount Semeru area, East Java, continue to receive handling from joint officers. As of Monday (31/08/2026), the area affected by the fire within the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) is reported to have reached approximately 600 hectares.
