Officers quizzed over shooting

JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta Police internal affairs are questioning six police officers as witnesses in connection with the wrongful shooting of Cengkareng resident, Yudianto, 31, in the back of the head on Feb. 28 in West Jakarta.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Anton Bahrul Alam said on Tuesday that the questioning of other police eyewitnesses was necessary, despite the fact that police had enough evidence to convict Brig. Pambudi of the West Jakarta Police SWAT team for fatally shooting an alleged robber.

"The police need to verify why the shooting took place exactly. We need to understand this, in order to prevent such an incident from ever happening again... such mistakes cannot be tolerated in the police force," Anton told reporters on Tuesday.

The six officers, who were part of Pambudi's SWAT team when the incident occurred, were identified as First. Brig. Toto, Second Brig. Misil, Second Brig. Victor, Brig. Taufik, First. Brig. Aang and Chief Brig. Sukirma.

He added that two civilians were also being questioned as witnesses in the case. (ylt)
