Officers face tribunal

DILI, East Timor: The East Timor Military Command plans to try 46 officers to by military tribunal for offenses ranging from insubordination, immoral conduct and desertion to traffic violations, Antara said.

The hearings will begin on Monday at the Command's headquarters and will be open to the public, Capt. Djoko Purwadi, a spokesman for the command, told Antara.

The public spectacle is intended to show that military officers are not immune to the law, as often perceived by some members of the community, Djoko said. (imn)
