Officer, residents held over drugs

JAKARTA (JP): Angry Menteng Atas residents of Setiabudi district, South Jakarta, apprehended a police officer and three residents for alleged possession of drugs and smoking equipment at an empty house on Jl. Minangkabau, Saturday night.

City Police Chief of Internal Affairs Supt. Mustofa identified the suspects as First Adj. Insp. Purdianto of the Mampang Police subprecinct, housewife Dina, housewife Kiki, and Yanto, who usually guarded the house whenever occupied by the other suspects.

"Local residents have suspected for some time that the house, usually used for storing vegetables, was being used for drug fests," Mustofa told The Jakarta Post on Sunday.

"On Saturday night, the men entered the house and found the four suspects. The residents told us that had we not arrived, they would have mobbed the suspects to death."

Police confiscated a packet of heroin and a packet of shabu- shabu (crystal methamphetamine), four syringes and three bong, equipment used for smoking shabu-shabu.

A source at the South Jakarta Police who asked for anonymity said that when residents barged into the house, they found that the police officer, the two housewives and the guard "were on a high".

"Residents pulled them out of the house and wanted to kill them, but the police arrived." (ylt)
