Officer named Tabanan Regent
DENPASAR, Bali: The Legislative Assembly in Tabanan has voted an Army colonel as its new regent to replace Army Brig. Gen. Ketut Sundria, who is now the chief of the Bali chapter of Golkar, the ruling political group.
Col. (Infantry) Komang Wijana, currently the chief of the Wirabuana 031 Military Area in Pekanbaru, Riau, won 30 out of a possible 36 votes on Saturday. The other candidates, Gede Rai Udayana and I Gusti Ayu Janawati received three votes each.
His election however is still subject to confirmation by the Ministry of Home Affairs Moch. Yogie S. Memet, who has the last say in all regency elections.
If approved, Komang would be inducted on June 10, the Antara news agency reported. (emb)
