Officer dies in highway accident

JAKARTA (JP): A senior officer of the National Police
Headquarters died when a truck hit his sedan on the Jagorawi toll
road yesterday morning.

Col. Djoko Soesilo, 47, sub-unit chief of the communications
and electronics agency at headquarters, was on his way to his
office from his home in Purwakarta, West Java, when the driver of
the truck loaded with sand lost control of the vehicle and
smashed into the officer's sedan.

The impact of the collision, which took place at 5 a.m., was
so powerful that both vehicles ended up on the other side of the
highway.

Djoko died on the way to the nearby UKI hospital in Cawang,
East Jakarta.

The truck's driver, identified as Suranto, is being questioned
at the Cililitan police station. (bsr)
