Office Workers Under Increasing Pressure, Future Even More Challenging
As digital technology advances, the working class finds it increasingly difficult to maintain ‘work-life balance’, the equilibrium between work and personal life. Internet networks, which keep modern humans connected 24 hours a day, allow office executives to interact with employees anytime and anywhere. The concept of ‘flexible working hours’ seems to lighten the load but instead brings the emotional burden of work without time limits. Furthermore, the development of social media has completely transformed the business landscape. The working class is forced to constantly adapt to technological changes and innovations, while worrying that their relevance might one day be replaced by new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI). Companies demand productivity, efficiency, and growth, while sidelining the mental and physical health of workers. If the pressure is already heavy for office employees now, the situation in the future is predicted to be even worse. When AI truly dominates, the technology is forecasted to become like a ‘boss’ with micromanaging tendencies. This was revealed by Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI boom. Huang stated that AI will make employees busier, even ‘sticking’ to them all the time. This is quite familiar with the current situation, but the intensity is likely to be higher. “AI agents will interrupt you, micromanage you, and make you busier than ever before,” said Huang, during a discussion at Stanford University, quoted from Futurism, Thursday (30/4/2026). However, Huang noted that this pressure will also bring positive impacts, namely more work that can be done in a short time. Ultimately, this is assessed to create more job opportunities. This picture differs somewhat from the narrative about AI being the reason for layoffs in many companies and people losing jobs. “There will be more people working at the end of this industrial revolution than at the beginning,” said Huang. Huang expressed something similar earlier this year. He said company leaders think narrowly if they want to reduce the number of employees because of AI. He emphasised that companies will need more resources with the presence of AI. “For visionary companies, you will do many things with more resources,” said Huang.
