Office work at home

Office work at home

East Jakarta mayor's measures to revive order in residential
zones under his jurisdiction should be followed by other mayors
in other cities. In particular, it should be copied by the mayor
of South Jakarta, a residential neighborhood infested with many
offices.

As reported by the mass media, the East Jakarta administration
recently sealed off a house in Condet because the lessee violated
an existing ruling, Perda No.7/1991 jo Skep Gubernur DKI Jakarta
No.205/1977, which stipulates that there should be no offices in
residential areas.

After the East Jakarta administration sealed off the offending
building, the authorities announced further action on other
offices violating the rule. The East Jakarta district is, indeed,
swarming with offices, printing companies, shops, salons,
food stalls, clinics, banks, all located in residential
neighborhoods.

It would be interesting to know why the East Jakarta
administration took action all of a sudden. Laymen like me are
baffled as to why it was done now. Many parties are guilty of
violating this office rule. At any rate, whatever the reasons,
the public is anticipating the same action in other districts.

The South Jakarta mayor will, of course, spring into action
immediately. In his district many houses are occupied by
companies. In government housing complexes, offices operate
openly. If the East Jakarta district has been made an example,
then South Jakarta is expected to follow suit.
