Office Buildings in Hayam Wuruk Become Headquarters for Online Gambling, Jakarta Provincial Government Urged to Evaluate
The Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) has uncovered an international online gambling (judol) operation in the office district of Hayam Wuruk, West Jakarta, on Saturday (9/5/2026). In the raid, police arrested 320 foreign nationals and one Indonesian citizen. Member of Jakarta Provincial DPRD’s Commission A, Kevin Wu, considers this revelation a severe warning to the Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov). According to him, the case is not merely about online gambling but concerns city security, foreign national oversight, building governance, and cross-border cybercrime. “Jakarta is talking big about becoming a global city, but a global city must not turn into a safe haven for international syndicates to run illegal businesses. Do not let legal office buildings in Jakarta be used as digital crime factories,” he said on Monday (11/9/2026). Therefore, the PSI faction member urges that the case be investigated thoroughly. The handling of the case must not stop at field operators alone. He demands that the controllers and financiers in the case be exposed as clearly as possible. “Building managers must also be seriously questioned, because an operation of this scale could not have taken place without signs of suspicious activity,” he stated. Kevin added that the Jakarta Provincial Government must also conduct an evaluation, particularly regarding prevention efforts. After all, the case occurred in Jakarta’s jurisdiction. “The provincial government, city government, local apparatus, Satpol PP, Kesbangpol, Immigration, and police must strengthen early detection in office buildings, apartments, rental houses, and locations that could potentially be used for illegal activities. Do not just be reactive after a raid, but there must be a prevention system,” he said.
