Oetojo puzzled by jailbreak

BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: Minister of Justice Oetojo Oesman has
ordered an investigation into the frequent jailbreaks at Rajabasa
Prison.

Prison officials say at least six prisoners have escaped over
the last six months. In the latest incident, two convicts broke
out of the jail on Jan. 10.

"It's strange that there is such a high frequency of
jailbreaks," Oetojo was quoted as saying by the Antara news
agency.

In the Jan. 10 incident, the prisoners managed to saw through
their cell bars and escape through the unguarded front gate at
about 4 a.m. One of the jailbreakers is known as a repeat
offender who often operates in Kalimantan.

Oetojo brushed aside speculation that prison officials may
have helped the convicts escape. "There is no indication to
support such allegation," he said. (pan)
