Oegroseno in Retirement Uniform Visits Bareskrim for Clarification

Former Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police, Commissioner General (Ret.) Oegroseno, arrived at the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) headquarters wearing his brown retirement uniform to provide clarification to the Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortas Tipidkor) on Thursday (30/7). The case concerns alleged corruption in the procurement of land for the Police Women’s School (Sepolwan).

Oegroseno was seen wearing a light brown retired officer’s uniform with tactical trousers and black shoes. He also wore a mutz cap typical of retired officers, adorned with a three-star pin signifying his final rank in the police force. ‘This is a retirement uniform. Because this incident occurred in 2011 when I was still Kalemdik, I suspect that since I am now retired and there is a connection to 2011, this is the appropriate attire,’ Oegroseno said.

Oegroseno admitted he was unaware of what the investigators intended to ask him. He stated that he attended the session simply because he had received an invitation for clarification. ‘I don’t know what the alleged issue is. Since there was an invitation for clarification, of course, one must attend when invited, right? I tried to find the connection, and based on the invitation, it mentions an alleged criminal act in the land grant process for Sepolwan,’ he said. ‘Also, the procurement of replacement land for Sespim in 2011. If it’s from 2011, there should be an inspection result from the Inspectorate General of Supervision. But the basis used here is an information report,’ he added.

Oegroseno was originally scheduled to provide his statement the previous Thursday (23/7) but requested a postponement due to other unavoidable commitments. The head of Kortas Tipidkor, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, previously stated that the clarification invitation was not an attempt to criminalise the former high-ranking officer. He explained that the case originated from a public complaint regarding alleged criminal acts in the Sepolwan land procurement process and assured that the investigation is being conducted according to legal corridors. ‘So, this investigation is intended to determine whether this incident constitutes a criminal act of corruption or not,’ he told reporters on Thursday (23/7). Totok added that the process of inviting someone for clarification is regulated in Article 16 paragraph 1 letters c and j of the Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP) to obtain information as part of the investigation method.
