Odorous Waste Flows into Berawa Beach, Suspected to Originate from Nightclub

Police have received reports regarding the suspected indiscriminate disposal of waste flowing into the Berawa Beach area, Tibubeneng Village, North Kuta, Badung, Bali. Officers conducted an inspection after receiving a public report via the 110 emergency service on Thursday (30/07/2026) evening.

“Our officers immediately went to the location upon receiving the complaint regarding suspected waste flowing to the beach. Personnel discovered pools of foul-smelling water emerging from a drainage ditch,” said Ipda Ni Nyoman Yuni Eltari, Head of PIDM Sub-section of Badung Police, on Friday (31/07/2026).

The report began when a tourist at Berawa Beach observed what appeared to be waste flowing from a ditch in front of a nightclub at approximately 18:00 WITA. The pool of water, which reportedly emitted a strong odour, then flowed into a water channel that leads directly to the coastal area.

“After tracing every drainage hole, the source of the pungent odour led to a water pipe at the entrance of the nightclub. We immediately coordinated with the Badung Environmental and Forest Services (DLHK) because information suggests the waste pipe at that location has previously leaked,” Yuni stated.

Badung Police personnel, led by Iptu I Made Dwi Somadi Putra along with three officers, collected evidence and statements from the management. The police also requested that the management re-examine the condition of their waste pipe network to ensure no further leaks occur.

“The field inspection was completed last night. They have promised to re-check all of their waste pipes,” said Yuni.

Regarding the report, the Badung Environmental and Forest Services have not yet released the results of the field inspection concerning the suspected waste leak. The Head of the Badung Regency Environmental Service, Made Rai Warastuthi, admitted that they are still investigating the report.
