The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) has abolished the odd-even vehicle number plate system beginning Wednesday 18 March 2026. The system will remain suspended until the following week, specifically Tuesday 24 March 2026.

According to information from the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) social media, the policy was implemented due to national holidays and joint leave scheduled for the coming week. The national holidays include the Nyepi (Balinese New Year) celebration on Wednesday 18 March 2026 and Eid al-Fitr, which is expected to fall on Saturday 21 March and Sunday 22 March 2026, along with joint leave for these two religious observances.

“In connection with the public holidays and joint leave for Nyepi (Saka Year 1948) and Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH on 18-24 March 2026, the implementation of the odd-even system on various roads in Jakarta is temporarily suspended,” stated Dishub.

Despite the temporary suspension of the odd-even policy, the public is still urged to maintain road safety. Motorists are advised to continue observing traffic regulations while travelling on the roads.

In welcoming Eid al-Fitr, the Jakarta Provincial Government also plans to organise a motor-free day (HBKB) on the evening of the takbiran (Eid eve) in the Sudirman-Thamrin area. This activity aims to provide space for the public to hold torchlit processions as part of the Eid celebration tradition.

“We are providing ample space. Hopefully, this Eid al-Fitr celebration will leave a profound impression on all those who celebrate it,” said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung.
