ODC Task Force Captures KKB Member Involved in Shooting of Tito Karnavian
Nabire (ANTARA) - The Satgas Operasi Damai Cartenz (ODC) 2026 has captured a member of the armed criminal group (KKB) suspected of being involved in the shooting incident targeting the entourage of the Papua Police Chief in 2012, a position then held by General Police (Ret.) Tito Karnavian.
Kasatgas Humas Ops Damai Cartenz 2026, Kombes Pol Yusuf Sutejo, when contacted from Nabire on Friday, stated that the perpetrator, initials Pulan Wonda alias Kamenak, was arrested in Peruleme Village, Mulia District, Puncak Jaya Regency, Central Papua, on Thursday (2/4).
“The perpetrator is a wanted suspect known to be an active member of the armed group Kodap XII Lanny Jaya and has a long track record in various acts of violence,” he said on Friday.
He explained that the arrest was carried out after the Satgas ODC conducted surveillance and detected the perpetrator’s presence in the Mulia town area. When about to be secured, the perpetrator attempted to escape by ramming the officers’ vehicle.
The authorities issued warning shots, but they were ignored, leading to measured and decisive action that incapacitated the perpetrator in his right leg.
During the arrest, the officers also seized several pieces of evidence, including one motorcycle unit, three mobile phones, and other personal items.
According to Yusuf, the perpetrator is suspected of being involved in a series of armed violent acts since 2010, including attacks on security personnel and civilians in the Puncak Jaya and Lanny Jaya areas, as well as the shooting of the Papua Police Chief’s entourage in 2012.
The actions of Pulan Wonda and his group have resulted in dozens of civilians and TNI and Polri personnel being injured and killed.
The Head of Operasi Damai Cartenz 2026, Faizal Ramadhani, emphasised that the arrest represents the state’s commitment to providing protection to the community from armed violence threats.
“This law enforcement is carried out professionally, measurably, and in accordance with regulations to maintain security stability,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Head of Operasi Damai Cartenz 2026, Adarma Sinaga, added that a humane approach is still prioritised, including providing medical treatment to the perpetrator after the action.
Currently, the perpetrator is still undergoing medical treatment and will be further processed legally. The Satgas ODC is also continuing to deepen the investigation to uncover possible involvement of other networks.
The Satgas emphasised that it will continue to enhance law enforcement efforts to create a safe and conducive security situation in Central Papua.
