people, mostly foreigners. The trials of the suspected
perpetrators of the attacks reveal the roles of Malaysian
nationals Azahari bin Husin and Noordin Moh. Top in assembling

Aug. 5, 2003: Bomb rocks J.W. Marriott Hotel in South Jakarta
leaving 12 people dead. Police find the attack is the work of
recruits of Azahari and Noordin.
Oct. 29, 2003: Police besiege a house on Jl. Kebon Kembang in
Bandung, but let Azahari and Noordin escape as they are carrying
bags that the police fear contain bombs.
Nov. 14, 2003: Police announce they have missed Azahari and
Noordin again during a raid on a house in Semarang.
Sept. 1, 2004: Police take convicted Bali bomber Ali Imron out
for coffee in Starbucks cafe in Plaza X, Central Jakarta. Police
say Imron will help them locate the whereabouts of Azahari and
Noordin.
Sept. 9, 2004: New recruits of Azahari attack Australian Embassy
in South Jakarta, killing 12 people. Azahari evades arrest after
he bribes traffic police three times while riding a motorcycle
shortly after the bombing.
Oct. 1, 2005: Three bombs kill 23 people in three restaurants in
Bali, but police have not proven the involvement of Azahari and
Noordin.
Nov. 9, 2005: Antiterror police raid a villa in Batu, Malang,
killing Azahari, but Noordin escapes.
