Occupational accident rate high

JAKARTA: State insurance company PT Jamsostek said on
Wednesday the occupational accident rate in the country remained
high and it would therefore continue cooperation with state-owned
general hospitals to establish trauma centers to deal with
fatalities.

Jamsostek's president Achmad Junaidi said an average of 349
accidents occurred every day during the first quarter of 2004,
with an average of 35 workers becoming disabled every day.

So far, Jamsostek has developed 28 trauma centers in
industrial zones in 15 provinces, the last opened over the
weekend at the Bari General Hospital in Palembang, capital of
South Sumatra. --JP
