Jakarta - The lawyer for the director of PT Matahari Makmur Sejahtera (MMS), Jap Ferry Sanjaya, Otto Cornelis (OC) Kaligis, claims to have reported the former Klaten Regent Sri Mulyani because he perceives irregularities in the corruption case concerning the lease of Plaza Klaten that ensnared Jap Ferry.

OC assesses that it should not be only his client, as the bribe giver, who is punished, but also Sri, as the party who signed the lease agreement.

“The one who drafted it was, say, the Regent herself through her Regional Secretary. There is a lease agreement, after all. Why does this lease agreement become criminal? If it’s criminal, fine, both should go in—the lessor and the lessee. That’s why I reported it,” said OC Kaligis when met at the Central Jakarta District Court on Tuesday (21/4/2026).

He explained that Jap Ferry had already paid the lease money as stated in the indictment, namely Rp 1.3 billion.

He mentioned that this money had entered the local government (Pemda).

“Now, the lease price is per year, per five years. For five years, it’s roughly how many billions that, say, Ferry has paid,” said OC.

“That’s why I say this is selective justice. Yes, isn’t it, the basis is leasing. Now, leasing involves two parties, right? Why only the party giving the money (who is punished),” he said.

“She says she only heard about the lease agreement, but she doesn’t know its contents,” said OC again.

However, the trial showed that several witnesses stated the opposite.

“There are ten witnesses who say she knew, of course, she’s been reported. How could the lease agreement be signed by the Regional Secretary and the Regent not know?” he added.

Sri also once invited Jap Ferry to attend the inauguration of Plaza Klaten.

“On 31 December 2024 (at the inauguration), Jap Ferry was invited, and after that, he was put in prison,” said OC.
