The Sitinjau Lauik Flyover (Panorama I) project in Padang, West Sumatra, continues to advance. This Rp2.7 trillion infrastructure initiative is targeted for completion in 2028. Based on observations by CNBC Indonesia last week, construction activities were ongoing, with heavy equipment such as excavators operating at the site. Trucks were also seen entering and exiting the construction area. To date, the project activities have not disrupted surrounding traffic. The flyover is being built to a length of 2.774 kilometres. The construction is particularly challenging due to the geographical conditions involving hills and mountain crevices. According to the official website, the Padang city government will accelerate the acquisition of 23 land parcels for the Sitinjau Lauik Flyover, including special handling for the riverbank areas, which is a crucial issue to avoid hindering on-site construction. The infrastructure will facilitate public transport and private vehicles heading to or leaving Padang. This is especially relevant given that Sitinjau Lauik serves as an extreme route for drivers with a high risk of accidents. The steep incline often proves impassable for vehicles. The gradient reaches 45 degrees, with a 16-metre-wide carriageway. Moreover, there is a wide chasm on the roadside. It requires special driving skills. For those not yet proficient, locals even offer assistance services. During the homecoming rush, this route becomes a key access point for people from Solok, Jambi, Palembang, and even Jakarta. It is no surprise that long queues often form.
