Observer Warns to Beware of Infiltrators at 27 August 2026 Demonstration

Political analyst Boni Hargens has asked security forces to remain vigilant against the potential emergence of unexpected events during the demonstration on 27 August 2026 in front of the DPR/MPR building in Jakarta. Boni assessed that rumours surrounding the potential for chaos ahead of the rally are part of the dynamic of public narrative that needs to be responded to in a measured and proportional manner by the TNI/Polri. “The National Police, together with the TNI and BIN, certainly already have an effective collaboration strategy to maintain security in any chaotic situation that may occur,” said Boni in Jakarta on Wednesday (26/8/2026).

Boni stated that events with potentially major and unpredictable impacts always have a chance of occurring, even when the situation appears normal. Therefore, law enforcement officials were urged not to be complacent. Behind claims that the security and public order situation is under control, Boni identified a combination of three main risk factors that could escalate the situation at tomorrow’s demonstration. First, rumours and unverified information circulating on social media can shape an exaggerated perception of threat and trigger chain reactions in society.

Second, the emergence of public fear and panic can alter collective behaviour, risking a worsening of escalation on the ground. Third, the presence of infiltrators who exploit the momentum of the rally for interests beyond the official agenda of the protesters poses the most unpredictable threat at tomorrow’s demonstration. “The demonstration itself can proceed normatively, but the combination of rumours, public fear, and the presence of infiltrators can turn the situation into a real threat to national security,” concluded Boni.

Polda Metro Jaya estimates that the number of people who will participate in the rally to voice their opinions in front of the DPR/MPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, tomorrow (27/8) will reach around 500 people. Among other matters, Commission III of the DPR RI is receiving input from a number of academics regarding the drafting of the Bill on Asset Forfeiture.
