Observer Urges Indonesia to Reject Violent Resolution of International Crisis
Jakarta – An international relations observer from Padjadjaran University (UNPAD), Teuku Rezasyah, has called on Indonesia to reject the violent resolution of international crises.
“I believe Indonesia must establish a policy fundamentally rejecting the resolution of international crises through violence,” Rezasyah said to ANTARA in Jakarta on Saturday.
In this regard, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is being urged to take an appropriate stance so as not to disrupt its relationship with the United States within the Board of Peace (BoP).
“Because within the Board of Peace, there will be a firmer stance from President Prabowo Subianto, given that he has not yet spoken about the Two-State Solution,” he said.
On the other hand, a firmer stance towards the United States is also necessary so that when US and Israeli attacks result in large-scale deaths of Iranian civilians, this will not affect the trust of Gaza’s population in Indonesia.
“Because the people in Gaza have their hearts with Iran. And if we are not careful, this will also impact the safety of Indonesian troops there,” he said.
The Israeli Ministry of Defence stated that it launched attacks against Iran and declared a state of emergency across its entire territory.
Shortly thereafter, the United States also conducted strikes against several Iranian targets from air and sea, according to a Reuters report on Saturday (28 February), citing a US official.
Later that same day, Saturday (28 February), Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed the launch of the first wave of rocket attacks against Israel.
Tehran launched missiles and drones towards Israel in response to aggression by the Zionist regime against Iran.
In relation to this, Indonesia has called on all parties to exercise restraint, prioritise dialogue and diplomacy, and stated its readiness to facilitate negotiations between the US and Iran to ease tensions in the Middle East.
“Indonesia again emphasises the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every nation and resolving differences through peaceful means,” according to a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) posted on its official X account and monitored in Jakarta on Saturday.
