Observer supports Transjabodetabek fare adjustment plan

Transport observer Deddy Herlambang supports the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government’s plan to adjust fares for Transjabodetabek buses. He considers the current flat fare of Rp3,500 too cheap if applied across all areas, including buffer zones. “Indeed, the Transjabodetabek fare is too cheap with a flat rate of Rp3,500 to any destination. A fit fare must be competitive with commuter line fares,” Deddy stated when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday. He therefore assessed it would not be a problem if the Transjabodetabek fare were adjusted to existing market conditions.

Previously, Special Staff to the Governor and Deputy Governor of Jakarta for Public Communication, Chico Hakim, said the Transjabodetabek fare adjustment would still consider the public’s economic capacity. “The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government continues to adhere to the principle that Transjakarta, including Transjabodetabek, includes a Public Service Obligation element, which of course prioritises consideration of the public’s economic capacity,” Chico explained. Even so, Chico mentioned that a specific fare for Transjabodetabek has not yet been decided. Chico also did not specify which routes would undergo fare adjustments. According to Chico, this remains under internal discussion. “It is still in the internal discussion process,” Chico said.
