Observer reminds AMPB rally at DPR to remain peaceful
Executive Director of Skala Data Indonesia (SDI) Arif Nurul Imam has reminded participants of the Aliansi Masyarakat Pati Bersatu (AMPB) rally at the DPR RI building on Thursday (27/8) to convey their aspirations peacefully and avoid anarchic actions.
“I believe demonstrations are the right of every citizen, as long as they are carried out constitutionally and peacefully,” Arif said in a statement in Yogyakarta on Wednesday.
The statement was made in response to the planned AMPB rally in front of the DPR RI building, which among other things demands the passage of the Asset Forfeiture Bill and the implementation of the death penalty for corruptors.
According to him, the demands voiced by these community elements deserve appreciation as part of public aspirations to realise a more advanced and just Indonesia.
“I think these demands deserve appreciation as public aspirations that must be responded to by stakeholders,” he said.
While supporting the expression of public aspirations, Arif reminded rally participants to be wary of the possibility of infiltrators who could provoke unrest.
He said the domestic situation must be kept conducive, especially as Indonesia faces various domestic and global challenges.
“A conducive situation will make it easier for the government to organise, mitigate and project amid global and domestic challenges,” he said.
Therefore, Arif urged that the expression of aspirations in public continue to prioritise peaceful and orderly means to avoid security and public order disturbances.
The AMPB rally is scheduled to take place in front of the DPR RI building in Jakarta on Thursday (27/8).
Besides AMPB, a number of other community groups also plan to voice their aspirations in the parliamentary area on the same day.
