JAKARTA – Combined attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran amid nuclear issue negotiations have been assessed as a serious violation of international diplomatic ethics.

International Relations Observer from Moestopo University, Ryantori, emphasised that Indonesia must exercise caution in addressing such geopolitical dynamics, including regarding its position in the Board of Peace (BoP).

According to Ryantori, the joint US-Israel attack on Iran occurred whilst both parties were negotiating the nuclear issue. This situation, he stated, clearly undermines diplomatic principles.

“Regarding the US-Israel attack on Iran, it occurred amid negotiations on the nuclear issue between both sides. Clearly, this is a serious breach in terms of diplomatic ethics,” he said when contacted by Republika.co.id on Monday (2/3/2026).

Ryantori also highlighted the narrative developing in circles of former US President Donald Trump that views the late Ali Khamenei as a figure who should be eliminated.

“The claim that the late Khamenei is an evil figure from Trump’s perspective and therefore must be eliminated is an unfounded reason,” he stated.

From a realism perspective, he said, national interest is one of the most important matters being pursued. If there is something that obstructs it, it must be eliminated. That is Khamenei’s position in Trump and Co.’s view.

Ryantori warned that escalation of this conflict will not only impact the region, but also the globe, particularly in the economic sector and the configuration of international alliances.
