Jakarta (ANTARA) - Social observer Dewi Rahmawati Nur Aulia believes that the implementation of Government Regulation Number 17/2025 on Child Protection in the Governance of Electronic Systems for Child Protection (PP Tunas) must be accompanied by increased compliance from digital platforms. According to Dewi, the current challenges in child protection are structural and systemic, so it is insufficient to rely solely on the role of families or digital literacy alone. She views the presence of PP Tunas as an opportunity to strengthen the responsibility of electronic system providers in creating a safe digital space for children. Dewi stated that so far, the orientation of platforms, which focuses more on engagement, has the potential to neglect child user safety aspects. Therefore, she encourages the government to ensure that regulations like PP Tunas do not stop at the policy level but are followed by strict supervision of digital platform compliance. In this way, she continued, child protection in the digital space can run more effectively. The implementation of PP Tunas is effective from 28 March 2026, and every digital-operating business entity is required to comply with the provisions of that regulation. Previously, the Minister of Communications and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid emphasised that the Indonesian Government will not compromise with digital platforms that do not comply with the mandate to protect children in the digital space in line with PP Tunas. In the Minister of Komdigi Regulation Number 9 of 2026 as the implementing regulation of PP Tunas, it is explained that several sanctions apply to platforms that do not comply with the rules, including administrative sanctions in the form of warning letters, temporary access suspension, to access disconnection.
