Observer: KPK Involvement in Febrie Adriansyah Case Signals Prabowo's Seriousness in Eradicating Corruption

Political observer Hendri Satrio has assessed that the involvement of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in the detention of former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus), Febrie Adriansyah, serves as a positive signal from President Prabowo Subianto’s administration regarding corruption eradication. Satrio stated that the public should not focus solely on the individual facing legal proceedings, but rather on the effort to involve other law enforcement agencies in handling the case. “This is a good step. When the KPK is involved, it sends a message that Prabowo’s administration wants the corruption eradication process to be more open, more transparent, and not solely reliant on one institution,” Satrio said in a statement on Saturday, 25 July 2026. According to him, the KPK’s involvement indicates Prabowo’s desire to build coordination among law enforcement agencies. This move could also strengthen public trust in the ongoing legal process. “The President certainly does not need to dictate who is investigated, who is detained, or how the legal construction should be. However, the President must create an atmosphere where law enforcers dare to work. The KPK’s involvement can be read as a signal that Prabowo is providing space for more serious law enforcement,” he said. He assessed that eradicating corruption requires joint efforts between the KPK, the Attorney General’s Office, the National Police, and other state institutions. Therefore, coordination in handling a case should be viewed as a positive development as long as it is conducted according to the rules and authority of each institution. “We are not talking about Febrie personally. The focus is not on the individual. The focus is on how the state handles corruption cases by involving institutions that have the authority and competence,” he stated. Satrio believes this step could also address public doubts regarding the Prabowo administration’s commitment to eradicating corruption. He said a president’s seriousness in fighting corruption is not only seen through speeches or political statements, but also through the courage to open space for law enforcement agencies to oversee each other and cooperate. “If Prabowo is consistent with this pattern, involving the KPK and ensuring the legal process runs without intervention, then I think Prabowo is indeed showing himself to be an anti-corruption champion,” Satrio said.
