Political observer Hendri Satrio (Hensa) believes that the move by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, to visit the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) on Tuesday (19/5) could be interpreted as an interesting signal amidst public attention regarding market conditions. Hensa noted that while the presence of the House leadership at the IDX may spark curiosity, the step could also be understood as an effort to demonstrate that the state is actively monitoring market conditions.

“At first glance, it may seem somewhat unusual, but the DPR’s visit to the IDX could carry a specific message, which could be read as a signal of attention towards the market situation,” Hensa stated in a release on Wednesday (20/5).

He assessed that in terms of public communication, such steps would be more effective if clearly explained so that the public understands the intent. According to him, if the goal is to monitor readiness for assessments by institutions such as MSCI, then that message could be vital for both the market and the public.

“If the intention is to send a signal to the market, that is good. It simply depends on how it is explained to the public so that the context is clearer and does not raise excessive questions,” he said.

Hensa also linked this moment to President Prabowo Subianto’s agenda at the DPR, which includes the presentation of the Macroeconomic Framework and Main Points of Fiscal Policy (KEM-PPKF) for the 2027 State Budget Draft (RAPBN). He suggested that these two agendas could be read as a series of messages indicating that both the government and the DPR are paying close attention to the direction of economic policy.

“When read together, Dasco’s move and the President’s agenda in the DPR could reinforce one another. This implies a message that the state is preparing itself seriously, both from a political and a market perspective,” he added.

Hensa further emphasised that while such steps may be appropriate, they must be accompanied by effective communication. Without it, the positive message intended could lose its significance.

In a separate context, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) noted that the recent weakening of the Indonesia Composite Index (IHSG) remains in line with regional exchange trends. Meanwhile, the Indonesia Crypto Exchange (ICEx) has officially launched with the support of 11 PAKD and OJK licensing, strengthening the national digital asset ecosystem on the global stage.
