Obituary News: Michael Bambang Hartono Passes Away This Afternoon

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The entrepreneur and owner of the Djarum Group, Michael Bambang Hartono, passed away on Thursday afternoon (19/3) at 13:15 Singapore time. He died at the age of 86. “The Djarum Group family extends its deepest condolences on the passing of Mr Michael Bambang Hartono on Thursday, 19 March 2026, at 13:15 Singapore time,” stated Budi Darmawan, Senior Corporate Communication Manager of the Djarum Group, to CNBC Indonesia on Thursday (19/3/2026). The news of his passing was received by CNBC Indonesia from a condolence post by the Thailand Bridge Association. As of the publication of this article, there is no information on where the late Mr Hartono will be buried. The late Michael Hartono was actively involved in playing bridge. In fact, he once represented Indonesia in this sport at the 2018 Asian Games. This richest individual became Indonesia’s oldest athlete at the 2018 Asian Games and managed to contribute a bronze medal to the motherland. He received a bonus of Rp 250 million from President Joko Widodo at that time.
