Obituary for Dicky and Nike

Obituary for Dicky and Nike

The article Nation bids farewell to some of its best artists published in The Jakarta Post on Dec. 26, 1995 encouraged me to write a letter in order to inform the Post that it did not publish any news about Dicky Zulkarnaen, who died of a heart attack in March, and Nike Ardilla who died in a car accident in Bandung, also in March.

I know this because I have read the Post since 1994. All the newspapers in Indonesia published the news of the death of these two top artists, except the Post. I really do not understand why the Post ignored these artists by failing to publish the news of their deaths.

The Post did publish an obituary of a South American actress a few weeks after we lost Dicky and Nike.

I would like an explanation. Why did this happen? Was it intentional or editorial negligence?

Note: We did run an obituary for Dicky Zulkarnaen on March 11, 1995. We did not publish one on Nike, but ran subsequent stories on her death and its impact.
