Obasanjo invites Susilo to Nigeria

JAKARTA: Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has invited his Indonesian counterpart Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to visit his country, Nigerian Ambassador to Indonesia Moh. Buba Ahmed said in Jakarta.

"The invitation was extended to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono during our President's recent visit to Indonesia. It was an open invitation," Ambassador Ahmed said on Wednesday.

Obasanjo visited Indonesia late last month to attend the Asian-African Summit.

Nigeria, according to Ahmed, has maintained cordial ties with Indonesia for a long time. Nigeria, the present chair of the African Union, is Indonesia's biggest trading partner on the African continent.

Last year, Indonesia imported US$1.2 billion worth of oil and gas from Nigeria and exported $350 million in goods. -- JP
