Washington - The draft agreement between Washington and Tehran includes provisions for a ‘post-war investment fund’ that could channel billions of dollars to Iran should a final deal be reached, according to The New York Times, citing sources involved in the matter.

An Iranian official, referring to it as a ‘reconstruction programme’, and an involved diplomat estimated its value at $300 billion (US$1 = Rp17,789), according to the report.

Two diplomats described it as an ‘international investment fund’, which the US would help facilitate if a final agreement is reached. They said the plan for the fund would be further discussed during negotiations.

During initial talks, Tehran demanded compensation for bomb damage, which Iranian officials estimated to be between $300 billion and $1 trillion.

US and Iranian negotiators have agreed on a memorandum of understanding to extend the ceasefire for 60 days and begin talks on Iran’s nuclear programme. However, US President Donald Trump has yet to give final approval, according to US media on Thursday (28 May), Xinhua reported.
