Nyepi 2026 Holiday: How Many Days? National and Balinese-Specific Schedule
The sacred Hindu festival of Nyepi for the Saka New Year 1948 will be observed in mid-March 2026. The government has established a number of public holidays encompassing national holidays and collective leave related to the celebration.
Furthermore, specifically for Hindu adherents in Bali, the regional government has also established optional holiday provisions to support the conduct of the series of religious ceremonial observances.
National Nyepi 2026 Holiday Schedule
Based on the Joint Ministerial Decision (SKB) of three ministers—the Minister of Religion, the Minister of Manpower, and the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform—Numbers 1497, 2, and 5 of 2025 respectively, the following is the holiday schedule for Nyepi 2026:
Wednesday, 18 March 2026: Collective Leave for the Sacred Day of Nyepi (Saka New Year 1948)
Thursday, 19 March 2026: National Holiday for the Sacred Day of Nyepi (Saka New Year 1948)

Optional Nyepi 2026 Holiday Schedule
In addition to the national holidays and collective leave, there is also optional leave that applies specifically to Hindu adherents in Bali. This provision is stipulated in the Circular Memo from the Directorate General of Hindu Guidance at the Ministry of Religion Number B-253/DJ.VI/Dt.VI.I.3/BA.03/09/2025 and the Circular Memo from the Governor of Bali Number B.30.800.1.6.2/61594/PK/BKPSDM.
The following is the optional holiday schedule for the series of Nyepi 2026 celebrations:
Saturday, 17 January 2026: Sacred Day of Siwa Ratri (Optional Leave)
Wednesday, 18 March 2026: Tawur Agung Kesanga (National Collective Leave)
Thursday, 19 March 2026: Sacred Day of Nyepi, Saka New Year 1948 (National Holiday)
Friday, 20 March 2026: Ngembak Geni, Sacred Day of Nyepi (Optional Leave)
The optional leave related to the Hindu religious festival applies to employees, civil servants (ASN), and members of the armed forces and police who are Hindu, enabling them to conduct religious ceremonies.
Accordingly, the Nyepi 2026 holiday period comprises two days of national application—collective leave on 18 March 2026 and a national holiday on 19 March 2026. For Hindu adherents in Bali, there is an additional two days of optional leave, namely on 17 January 2026 and 20 March 2026, resulting in a total of four days of leave.
