NY bank to open office here

JAKARTA (JP): The Bank of New York Company, Inc. has filed an
application to the government for the establishment of a
representative office here by the middle of the year.

The bank announced here over the weekend that its chairman and
chief executive officer, J. Carter Bacot, was in town last week
for a four-day visit.

The Bank of New York is one of the largest banks in the United
States, with total assets of US$49 billion. (hdj)
