Nvidia to Acquire Hugging Face for $12.93 Billion
San Francisco (ANTARA) - The US-based chip manufacturer, Nvidia, has agreed to the acquisition of the artificial intelligence (AI) development platform Hugging Face for approximately $12.93 billion (1 USD = Rp17,689), as announced by Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang on Thursday (3/9).
In a company blog post, Huang stated that both companies will collaborate to scale the Hugging Face platform, strengthen its infrastructure, and expand AI access for developers and institutions worldwide.
Hugging Face will remain an open platform for the entire AI ecosystem, Huang said.
“NVIDIA computing will not be required to perform development or deployment through Hugging Face,” he continued.
Huang added that Hugging Face will continue to support open-source and open-weight models from various model developers, as well as multi-cloud and multi-accelerator development and deployment.
According to Huang, more than 18 million developers, researchers, and creators use Hugging Face, where they share over 3 million models, 500,000 datasets, and 1 million applications. More than 200,000 companies use the platform to discover, evaluate, fine-tune, and deploy AI.
Huang stated that Nvidia’s infrastructure, engineering capabilities, and global reach can help improve the reliability, security, model evaluation, as well as the inference and deployment capabilities of the Hugging Face platform, while maintaining the platform’s open ecosystem.
Nvidia also continues to expand its involvement in the development of open AI models. Huang stated that Nvidia has released more than 500 models and over 250 open datasets on Hugging Face, noting that Nvidia is the largest contributor to open data and models on the platform.
Hugging Face was founded by Clement Delangue, Julien Chaumond, and Thomas Wolf.
