Jakarta (ANTARA) - Technology giant Nvidia is reported to have invested in various artificial intelligence (AI) deals in the early part of this year, with the total amounting to $40 billion (approximately Rp696 trillion). According to a TechCrunch report on Sunday (10/5) local time, Nvidia has made equity investments and strengthened its image as an investor focused on developing the AI ecosystem. News of Nvidia’s investment value was first reported by CNBC, which also revealed that most of the investments were allocated to OpenAI. Nvidia’s investment in OpenAI amounts to $30 billion (approximately Rp522 trillion). In addition to AI companies, Nvidia’s latest investments in other fields include a deal to invest up to $3.2 billion in glass producer Corning and up to $2.1 billion in data centre operator IREN. For 2026, according to FactSet data, the company led by Jensen Huang has already participated in around two dozen investment rounds in private startups. The fact that Nvidia has invested in some of its own customers has repeatedly received criticism that such moves are seen as circular deals that shift funds back and forth between the same companies. This was also noted by Wedbush Securities analyst Matthew Bryson, who said Nvidia’s investments “precisely fit into the theme of circular investing”. However, if this scheme succeeds, it could help the companies build sustainable competition.
