NVIDIA and ITB Encourage Students to Develop AI Talent
Bandung (ANTARA) – US technology company NVIDIA and the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) are promoting the development of artificial intelligence (AI) talent through RTX AI PC Day, an event intended to strengthen students’ readiness for advances in the technology.
NVIDIA Indonesia Country Consumer Business Lead Adrian Lesmono said collaboration between industry and universities was important to accelerate innovation and improve students’ ability to develop AI-based solutions.
“NVIDIA acts as a catalyst, bridging industry and education to accelerate AI innovation. Through technology support and access to AI computing, NVIDIA encourages students to experiment, develop their skills and transform from users into creators of AI solutions,” Adrian said in Bandung on Wednesday.
He said the event provided a forum for students, academics and technology enthusiasts to learn about developments in AI and its applications in education, the creative industries, productivity and gaming.
Adrian emphasised that AI was not a shortcut to replace subject knowledge, but a technology that could strengthen people’s ability to address real-world challenges.
“We want to encourage more students to become AI builders capable of producing innovations that are relevant to society and industry,” he said.
Meanwhile, ITB’s acting Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Edwan Kardena, said AI had advanced rapidly over the past two years and brought major changes to education.
He said universities needed to adapt so that AI could support learning without diminishing students’ critical-thinking abilities.
“The arrival of AI is an unavoidable development for both students and lecturers. Universities therefore need to adapt so the technology can support learning without reducing students’ critical-thinking abilities,” Edwan said.
He stressed that students needed not only broad and deep knowledge, but also an awareness of their learning process and the development of soft skills such as communication, teamwork and language proficiency.
AI’s development also requires lecturers to adjust their teaching and assessment methods, so learning focuses not only on final outcomes but also encourages students to understand problems, analyse information and find solutions independently.
“ITB is drafting internal regulations on the use of AI on campus to ensure the technology is used wisely, equitably and optimally in support of education and research,” he said.
