NVIDIA Acquires Hugging Face

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has announced that NVIDIA has acquired the startup Hugging Face in a deal worth $12.93 billion, or approximately Rp227.84 trillion.

According to a report by Engadget on Thursday (3/9), Huang stated that NVIDIA will work to develop Hugging Face, strengthen its infrastructure, and expand platform access to artificial intelligence (AI).

If the Hugging Face acquisition deal receives regulatory approval, NVIDIA will occupy a dominant position in both the AI hardware and open-source AI software businesses.

Hugging Face is a startup focused on AI. The Hugging Face platform is essentially a GitHub for AI, allowing developers to share, discover, and test open-source AI models.

By 2026, the platform had over 18 million users, sharing three million AI models with more than 200,000 companies utilising their models.

Huang also noted that NVIDIA has long been a major contributor to Hugging Face, with contributions including more than 500 models and 250 open datasets.

NVIDIA became an investor in Hugging Face after participating in at least one funding round in 2023. Other technology companies such as Google, Amazon, Salesforce, AMD, Intel, IBM, and Qualcomm have also invested in the startup.
