Nuzulul Quran Observance: Bamusi Holds Thanksgiving for Megawati's Honorary Doctorate

The Nuzulul Quran commemoration held by PP Bamusi (Baitul Muslimin Indonesia) on Saturday evening (7 March 2026) was imbued with strong religious and patriotic nuances. In the event, several figures highlighted the statesmanship of the fifth President of Indonesia, Megawati Soekarnoputri, particularly regarding her contribution and national messages conveyed during her recent international travels. Ahmad Basarah, chairman of Bamusi’s Advisory Council and also the PDIP faction leader in the MPR, emphasised that Megawati’s love for Indonesia is reflected in both spiritual moments and international diplomacy. According to Basarah, after receiving an honorary doctorate from Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University in Riyadh, Megawati chose to express gratitude by performing a pilgrimage to the Prophet Muhammad’s tomb in Madinah and undertaking the Umrah in Makkah. ‘In front of the Ka’bah, Mrs Mega prays that the Indonesian nation remains intact, peaceful, and prosperous,’ Basarah said in a written statement on behalf of Megawati’s family at the event. Basarah also expressed appreciation for Bamusi’s initiative to combine the Nuzulul Quran commemoration with a thanksgiving for the honorary doctorate awarded to Megawati, as well as the Umrah pilgrimage together with her two children, Puan Maharani and Prananda Prabowo.
