Nutrition programme targets pregnant women and toddlers through PKK
“One of the President’s strategic programs mandated to the ministry is the distribution and education of MBG for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers who do not attend early childhood education (PAUD),” Minister of Population and Family Development Wihaji said here on Thursday.
According to him, the majority of Family Assistance Teams (TPK) come from PKK administrators at the village level, making it a collaborative effort to conduct education.
He explained that TP PKK is part of a grassroots force that directly reaches communities, with more than 597 thousand TPK members on average drawn from PKK administrators and integrated health post (posyandu) cadres.
Wihaji stressed the importance of education in implementing strategic programs supported by TP PKK, including MBG and other national priority programs.
“Based on Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 115 on MBG Governance, Article 47, we are also tasked with distributing MBG. This must be known by all regional heads, especially TP PKK chairs, considering around 60 percent of regional heads are new,” he stated.
He noted that human resource development does not yield immediate results like infrastructure projects, but TP PKK must help educate the public on the importance of human development for higher-quality Indonesian families.
“Family development is not solely the responsibility of TP PKK, the ministry, or the National Nutrition Agency, but also requires outreach and advocacy to regions to ensure the MBG program runs well in communities,” Wihaji added.
