President Prabowo Subianto outlined several steps taken to safeguard world peace, one of which is through the Board of Peace (BoP) established by US President Donald Trump, in front of leaders of Islamic organisations and scholars. Prabowo regards BoP as one of the endeavours towards peace. This was conveyed by Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) figure and Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning (ATR/BPN) Nusron Wahid after a meeting at the Istana, Jakarta, on Thursday, 5 March 2026. Nusron urged all parties to give support to the government in various diplomatic efforts. “The position of the President is that Indonesia has accepted BoP as a means, as an endeavour towards peace. At least this endeavour should be tried first. It would not be acceptable for its endeavour and efforts to be undertaken, and yet be asked to exit beforehand,” Nusron said. Nusron explained that Prabowo’s move to become a mediator between the US and Iran has also received a positive reception from Middle Eastern countries. He noted that at least Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates support Indonesia playing this role. “Principally, the President wants there to be a meeting between the United States and Iran, to mediate and for Iran to open up,” he said. “And then the steps taken by the President have received support from several Middle Eastern and other Islamic countries, including from Pakistan and the UAE,” he added. He said the government is seeking to anticipate potential geopolitical volatility that could affect national economic stability, including risks to energy or food supplies if the conflicts in the region widen.
