Nusron Urges Islamic Organisations in NTB to Accelerate Waqf Land Certification
Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), Nusron Wahid, met with representatives of Islamic religious organisations in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) at Nahdlatul Ulama University (UNU) NTB in Mataram on Friday (10/4). During the occasion, Nusron invited the organisation leaders to contribute to accelerating the certification of waqf land.
“I have gathered you all to invite cooperation in resolving the issue of waqf land certification. Why? We should be ashamed; our houses are certified, yet the house of God is not,” Nusron stated in his remarks on Saturday (11/4/2026).
The certification of waqf land is an important step that can protect religious assets. According to Nusron, waqf land without certificates has the potential to cause conflicts, especially when the economic value of the land increases.
“I am worried that conflicts will arise. When the value is still low, there may be no problems, but once the value increases, especially in strategic areas like Mandalika, conflict potential will emerge due to the significant economic value,” Nusron explained.
Based on data from the Ministry of ATR/BPN, the total waqf land in NTB reaches around 14,000 plots. Of that number, only 7,063 plots or about 50.2% have been certified. The breakdown includes mosques with 5,468 plots (2,923 certified), prayer rooms with 5,045 plots (2,184 certified), graves with 756 plots (299 certified), pesantrens with 698 plots (302 certified), schools with 1,004 plots (360 certified), and other social facilities with 1,098 plots (995 certified).
Furthermore, Nusron targets the completion of waqf land certification in NTB within one year. To achieve this target, he asked the NTB Provincial BPN Regional Office to immediately form a special team and establish cooperation strengthened through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and thematic Real Work Lecture (KKN) programmes with Islamic universities in NTB.
“Make an MoU with UNU, UIN, or Muhammadiyah University for Thematic KKN to handle the certificates for mosques and prayer rooms, and it will all be sorted,” Nusron concluded.
For information, the meeting was attended by the General Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of NTB Province, Badrun; Rector of UNU NTB, Baiq Mulianah; and representatives of religious organisations across NTB. Accompanying the Minister of ATR/Head of BPN were the Head of the Public Relations and Protocol Bureau, Shamy Ardian; Minister’s Expert Staff for Public Communication, Rahmat Sahid; and the Head of the NTB Provincial BPN Regional Office, Stanley.
