Nusron on Post-17 August Reshuffle Issue: It's Unseemly for Ministers to Discuss It

Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Nusron Wahid has responded to the emergence of speculation regarding a cabinet reshuffle after 17 August. Nusron stated that the decision on a reshuffle lies with President Prabowo Subianto.

“I haven’t heard. Firstly, I haven’t heard. Secondly, that is all the prerogative of the President, the authority of the President,” Nusron said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (11/8/2026).

Nusron said that as an assistant to the president, it is unseemly to speak about a reshuffle. Ministers in the cabinet, he continued, should only focus on working.

“We, as assistants to the President, should not speak about that matter. It is inappropriate, unseemly, and impolite to talk about such things,” Nusron said.

“Because the duty of the President’s assistants is only to work and work. That is the authority and prerogative of the President. Please write that it is unseemly and impolite for ministers to talk about a reshuffle,” he added.

Nusron then addressed a statement by PKS Election Winning Body Chairman Mardani Ali Sera, who suggested that new figures in the cabinet need not come from political parties. He stated it was inappropriate to comment on the matter.

“Enough. It is unseemly and inappropriate for me to comment on that. That’s it, that’s the answer,” he added.

Mardani had previously addressed the issue of a cabinet refresh or reshuffle after 17 August. Mardani expressed support if President Prabowo Subianto wished to recruit new people with strong capabilities into the cabinet.

The member of House of Representatives Commission II supported the government recruiting new people into the Red and White Cabinet. Mardani noted that the priority should be individuals with integrity, not necessarily those from political parties.

“It is good if they want to recruit people known to the public who have capacity and integrity. If necessary, professionals, not necessarily party people. There are many qualified sons and daughters of the nation,” he said.
