Nusantara Five Satellite Strengthens Connectivity and Accelerates Indonesia's Digital Transformation
Sinar Mas has reaffirmed its commitment to providing equitable digital connectivity for all Indonesians through the inauguration of the Nusantara Five (N5) satellite operations in Jakarta on Monday, 11 May 2026. The presence of this satellite is expected to serve as a significant milestone in strengthening the national digital transformation, especially for the country’s outermost, frontier, and remote areas.
Managing Director of Sinar Mas, Ferry Salman, stated that the next step following the official granting of operational permits for the N5 satellite is to accelerate the equitable distribution of reliable internet access to communities across the nation. According to him, digital connectivity plays a crucial role in enhancing public services, driving regional economic growth, accelerating innovation, and providing more equitable access to education.
“We believe that, grounded in the power of collaboration and innovation that has previously successfully launched the satellite into orbit, we can accelerate the strengthening of connectivity for Indonesian society,” said Ferry.
The inauguration event was attended by the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Stella Christie, the Head of the Presidential Staff Office, Dudung Abdurachman, and the President Director of PT Pasifik Satelit Nusantara, Adi Rahman Adiwoso.
On that occasion, Ferry emphasised that connectivity is a right of the people, not merely a privilege for certain groups. The presence of the Nusantara Five Satellite not only reflects Indonesia’s independence in satellite technology development and digital transformation but also opens opportunities for regional cooperation and the development of innovations that can provide broad benefits to society.
He also stressed that investments in connectivity for remote areas are not solely business-oriented but are part of the company’s moral responsibility towards national development. With increasingly widespread and reliable internet access, it is hoped that the quality of life for the people can improve through better access to education, healthcare services, the digital economy, and various new opportunities in the technological era.
