Nusakambangan Prison Receives Agricultural Machinery Grant to Boost Food Security
Cilacap (ANTARA) - The correctional facility on Nusakambangan Island, Cilacap Regency, Central Java, has received a grant of agricultural machinery in the form of mini tractors and rice harvesters to support the food security programme and accelerate agricultural land development in the area.
The grant was handed over symbolically by the Director of PT Perintis Sukses Abadi, Rio, to Minister of Immigration and Correctional Affairs Agus Andrianto, witnessed by Head of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Dudung Abdurachman at Bantar Panjang Beach, Nusakambangan, on Tuesday.
The machinery will be used to support the creation of 120 hectares of new paddy fields, with an initial realisation of 30 hectares in the Solok Jero area.
On the occasion, Rio said the grant of two units of machinery was the first stage of the company’s support for the food security programme of the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Affairs.
“I have a dream to make a good contribution to the Republic of Indonesia. God willing, in the future we can donate tens or even hundreds of units to the ministry,” said the businessman from Blora.
In addition to the machinery, his company is also preparing assistance in the form of livestock waste drying machines, scheduled to arrive in Indonesia next month.
According to him, the technology can reduce the water content of waste by 10-15 per cent, allowing it to be processed into organic fertiliser with higher economic value.
He hopes the support can help make the government’s programme a success whilst benefiting the agricultural sector.
Regarding the grant, Minister Agus Andrianto expressed appreciation for the private sector’s concern in supporting food security development in Nusakambangan.
According to him, the assistance will be used to optimise land management as well as strengthen cooperation with communities cultivating land owned by the ministry.
“We thank the Director of PT Perintis Sukses Abadi for his concern in providing assistance. We also continue to open space and invite all parties, from the private sector, state-owned enterprises, and other government agencies to keep synergising in support of all government programmes,” he said.
He emphasised that collaboration between government, the private sector, and the community is key to accelerating the implementation of the President’s priority programmes, including food security.
Agus asked all correctional staff to make optimal use of the machinery so as to increase land productivity whilst contributing to the local economy.
Meanwhile, KSP Head Dudung Abdurachman said the transformation of Nusakambangan shows that correctional facilities not only carry out law enforcement functions but can also become productive rehabilitation centres through agricultural, livestock, and fisheries development, as well as the empowerment of inmates.
According to him, the programme aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s priority agenda of realising national food security.
Therefore, the KSP will continue to safeguard the implementation of strategic programmes, including facilitating the resolution of coordination obstacles across ministries and agencies.
He judged that the success of Nusakambangan’s development deserves to serve as a model because it proves that inmate rehabilitation can generate added value for the community.
“I, together with the Presidential Staff Office, appreciate what Mr Agus has done, and hopefully I can later report this to the President as an example,” he said.
Dudung also commended the machinery grant as a form of government and private sector collaboration in supporting national strategic programmes.
