Nusa Mandiri University Urges Lecturers to Continuously Upskill in Digital Era
Academic staff development is a key factor in improving higher education quality in Indonesia. This commitment is reinforced by Nusa Mandiri University (UNM), as a Digital Business Campus, through enhancing academic competencies, research, and professional standards among lecturers.
This is exemplified by the academic journey of UNM’s Faculty of Information Technology Dean, Dr. Anton, M.Kom, who successfully completed a doctoral degree in Computer Science after six years of study.
The achievement is not merely about earning an academic title but is crucial for strengthening research capabilities, technological innovation, and academic leadership within the university.
Through a dissertation focused on developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, Anton demonstrated the need for relevant and impactful research benefiting society.
Anton stated that lecturer career development does not stop after obtaining a doctorate. He believes lecturers must continuously improve through functional positions, research grants, international certifications, and global academic collaboration.
“Never hesitate to keep learning and developing yourself,” Anton said.
He also highlighted the importance of attending international conferences to broaden academic perspectives and open opportunities for research collaboration with global institutions.
As Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology, Anton emphasised that lecturer career development must go hand-in-hand with institutional quality improvement. Synergy between lecturers, academic staff, and students is key to building a robust and adaptable academic culture in response to technological advancements.
Meanwhile, UNM’s Academic Affairs Vice-Rector, Nita Merlina, praised the university’s commitment to professional development for lecturers.
“Nusa Mandiri University continues to encourage lecturers to enhance academic competencies, research, and international networks. Lecturer career development is vital in creating high-quality higher education that aligns with current digital industry needs,” Nita said.
She added that lecturers play a strategic role as drivers of innovation, research, and educational transformation in the era of globalisation and digital technology.
As a Digital Business Campus, Nusa Mandiri University continually offers academic, research, and innovation programmes to create a modern, adaptive higher education ecosystem oriented towards future needs.
