Nusa Lembongan Receives Additional Three-Wheeled Firefighting Fleet
The Klungkung Regency Government has been able to add only one three-wheeled motorcycle unit to the firefighting fleet in the Nusa Lembongan tourist area. This addition was provided through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme from PT SMI.
The Head of the Klungkung Civil Service Police Unit and Firefighters (Satpol PP and Damkarmat), I Dewa Putu Suarbawa, admitted that the firefighting fleet remains very minimal. According to him, fire management in the Nusa Penida area has previously been supported by a single post with two available units.
“In terms of the area’s size and fire potential, this is still very insufficient,” said Suarbawa when met following the handover ceremony at Ida Dewa Agung Jambe Field, Klungkung, on Thursday (1/10/2026).
“However, with this assistance, plus one unit of portable pump, it will certainly be very helpful. Especially since we previously did not have a single unit stationed in Nusa Lembongan,” he added.
Suarbawa noted that the available firefighting fleet in Nusa Penida consists of one fire engine with a 3,500-litre capacity and one supply tank with a 5,000-litre capacity. Firefighting services in the tourist area are supported by 15 personnel.
“We are continuously striving to strengthen fire management in the tourism area by gradually increasing facilities, infrastructure, and personnel. This improvement is, of course, adjusted to the capacity of the regional budget,” Suarbawa explained.
Suarbawa explained that the new fleet will be focused on the TPS 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) waste processing site in Jungutbatu Village, Nusa Lembongan. This is a priority given the fire potential from waste processing sites that produce methane gas.
The Regent of Klungkung, I Made Satria, explained that this fleet assistance is very useful for the Lembongan islands, particularly Jungutbatu and Lembongan Villages. He hopes the additional fleet will accelerate fire response in Nusa Lembongan.
“Until now, fire disasters in Lembongan have been difficult to handle maximally due to the lack of firefighting equipment, forcing residents to extinguish fires manually. Moving forward, we will endeavour to add more units, including for the needs of the Nusa Gede area,” said Satria.
