The Maluku Regional Police submitted the Letter of Order to Commence Investigation (SPDP) for the stabbing case of the Chairman of the Southeast Maluku II DPD of Golkar Party, Agrapinus Rumatora alias Nus Kei, to the Southeast Maluku District Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday (22/4).

Thus, the Nus Kei murder case has advanced to the investigation stage.

“We have handed over the SPDP to the Southeast Maluku District Prosecutor’s Office as an official notification that the investigation is underway. This is a mandatory legal mechanism in handling every criminal case,” stated the Head of Public Relations of the Maluku Regional Police, Commissioner Rositah Umasugi, in a written statement on Wednesday.

Rositah stated that all stages of case handling are conducted professionally, transparently, and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

The Maluku Regional Police also assured that the security and public order situation in Southeast Maluku remains conducive. Police once again urged the public not to be provoked and to fully entrust the legal process to the authorities.

The stabbing incident against Nus Kei occurred at Karel Sadsuitubun Airport on Sunday (19/4). At that time, the victim had just arrived on Lion Air flight JT880 from Pattimura Airport around 10:45 WIT.

After disembarking from the plane, Nus Kei was picked up by family and conversed in the airport exit area. However, a few minutes later, a man wearing a red jacket and mask suddenly attacked and stabbed him.

Nus Kei attempted to save himself by heading to the airport waiting room in an injured condition from the sharp weapon stab. However, he then collapsed due to severe bleeding.

Airport staff who witnessed the incident immediately provided assistance. The victim was then taken to the hospital by family members, but his life could not be saved.

Based on examination results, Nus Kei suffered four stab wounds to the neck, right and left chest, penetrating to the spine.

Police have designated HR (28) and FU (39) as suspects in the stabbing. The suspects are charged under Article 459 of the Criminal Code for premeditated murder, with penalties of death, life imprisonment, or a maximum of 20 years.

In addition, the two suspects are also charged under Article 458 of the Criminal Code with a maximum prison sentence of 15 years.
