Nus Kei: From Politician to Conflict with John Kei

Agrapinus Rumatora, alias Nus Kei, was declared dead after being stabbed at Karel Sadsuitubun Airport in Ibra, Maluku, on Sunday, 19 April 2026. Nus Kei was the Chairman of the Regional Leadership Council of the Golkar Party in Southeast Maluku.

Before joining the Golkar Party, Nus Kei was a colleague of John Refra Kei, alias John Kei. A Tempo report titled “Dispute in Ambon, Blood in Jakarta”, published on 1 August 2020, stated that the two were once entrusted with managing a 3.1-hectare plot of land in Ambon, Maluku.

However, it was on this land, located on the western side of Dr M. Haulussy Hospital, that the conflict between John Kei and Nus Kei erupted. The climax came on 22 June 2020, when John Kei’s group attacked Nus Kei’s subordinates.

In the attack that occurred at Nus Kei’s residence on Jalan Raya Kresek, Duri Kosambi, West Jakarta, one of Nus’s subordinates named Yustus Dorwing Rakbau was killed. He died from being slashed with a sharp object at the scene.

John Kei did not deny the attack carried out on 22 June 2020. He said the assault was one way to collect a debt. However, he denied ordering the killing of Yustus.

“You (Nus Kei) borrowed money, promised to repay in 6 months. Without the money, we have no problem. Try to learn to be honest, don’t lie on top of lies,” said John at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters, 19 October 2020.

John also denied Nus Kei’s claim of being his uncle. According to John, Nus was one of his former subordinates whom he brought to Jakarta from Maluku. “He’s no one to me, I made his life,” John stated.

Furthermore, John said the root of the problem in this case was Nus Kei’s debt to him amounting to Rp 1 billion. Nus Kei came to borrow money while John was still in prison. At that time, Nus promised to return Rp 2 billion within 6 months.

However, until John’s conditional release in 2019, Nus never visited or showed any intention to repay the debt. “I sent children from my own village to collect from him, but he still didn’t come,” said John.

Golkar Party Secretary General Muhammad Sarmuji urged Golkar cadres to control their emotions and not be provoked by this incident. “To the cadres, remain vigilant but do not get drawn into the situation. We entrust the police to thoroughly investigate the incident,” said the Golkar Faction Chairman when contacted yesterday.

Police have arrested two suspected perpetrators of the stabbing of Nus Kei. The two suspects are initials HR, aged 28, and FU, aged 36.
